This kind of cd-check was introduced with the first LOTR: BFME.
As for the sound, first update your soundcard drivers(if you have an onboard sound card that's a must - keeping your drivers up-to-date it's vital). Also the only codec pack for XP that worked fine for me is K-lite codec pack.

Long time user but first time poster, lol. KUDOS to your work
 I have just downloaded the CnC3-1.08-no-dvd-crack. I noticed that Vitality's file has 1.04 as part of the file's name (tested on two mirrors). As I cannot test/play right now I don't know if this is an issue or not. Sure the dl-link points at the correct file ?
