no its not the laser its mechanical, when i put in a disc the spindle does not rise up to hold the disc in place it stays lowered like when the disc tray is out

well after another look i found the problem there are 2 nubs on the front of the assembly that broke off looks like they run in grooves on the same part that everyone breaks doing the knife swap
well my bro works at gamestop so maybe i can get him to swap the ps2s out
