i know, lol i should have said no to my mate in the first place but ugh i just had to go and say yeah, me being the kind person i am, haha. its start button held down to disable right?
done. with the chip disabled, it does the same thing - takes a while to read the disc but eventually boots up an original vice city as normal.

Yeah, Its most likely the laser. I really dont think its the install because the chip seems to be working correctly. Try adjusting the laser POTS, Maybe you can get it to load well enough to last your friend a couple of months.
