That's good. EA deserves to get beat up in public over this. The reason they probably try to lock the saved games using the serial number is so that they can charge for the unlockable content on the PC like they do with the Xbox 360 version.

A large checksum (e.g, digest, see MD5) of the CD-key would've also been sufficient to be stored in savegames...

I agree, one of the fun points of Need For Speed Most Wanted was having multiple save games, and downloading even more.

Shame as I so cannot be doing with a dozen or more edits to make a single save game.

Do doubt in time someone will make a .exe of which will be able to do this for us lazy sods

I think removing 1) storing the CD-key while saving a savegame and 2) checking the CD-key while loading a savegame are both relatively simple in an already unprotected executable. (Of course, such savegames will have an empty CD-key, therefore, will load in cracked & patched games only... unless the publisher removes these two things itself... What an irony! )

Well I would love a savegame for NFS-Carbon the story is mediocre and will be a while before I am bored/drunk enough to be bothered to complete it so I can drive about in something faster than my Alfa Romeo I have right now.

I've tried looking for that 'offset'... I have no idea what that is. I'm guessing its the multidigit numbers on the side, followed by the hexstrings. In any case, I cannot find and cdkey, or anything like 0000003c and ending at 00000050.

Would it had been so hard to just include the damn CDKey in a textfile with the save file, isntead of having to go through all this crap?
