HDD? I assume you mean Dvd-Drive. Anyways, you can either open your 360 and read the sticker on the top, or look at the dvd tray shape. Note that you still need to look on the sticker of the drive to see what version drive is.

Here is a link to a tray comparison:

To copy update the firmware and copy games, the dvd drive will need to be hooked up to your PC. The x360 can not run unsigned code, it is only "tricked" into thinking that the disk itself is signed by MS. If you modify the binary data in any way, the binary signatures will become invalid. The complete disk must also be copied, including null sectors. You must burn to a dvd9, it will not fit on a dvd5.

Sorry, I don't know what drive you have. Search that titorial topic for your version and current firmware.

Also, look at this thread here:
http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=78240

This drive can have special firmware applied so you do not need to copy with your x360 dvd-rom.

I don't think you realise how limited this mod is. It doesn't matter if it is an x360 or xbox game, you still need to copy complete sectors of the game disks in order to play them. If you have backups from your original xbox, don't expect them to work. You will need to recopy everything, as well as patch the images with your dvd drive's specific keys.

That link contains all firmware versions and guide for flashing your specific drive. The only thing required is a working sata adapter. All hardware you need can be found in the first link I posted.
