U can play it with a DVD copy burnt from a blindwrite image in an external USB device

I have Scaned the Game and the Starforce Version from Nightwatch is V3.7.16.04 ....hope it helps in any way

Today released Daemon Tools 4.06 should work fine. No need to unplug IDE drives with that version of Starforce.

P.S. Newest version is SF 4.50.6.5

That still doesn't fix the problem of installing the starforce drivers onto the system, which is what I try to avoid. Everything else popular has a crack for that issue. Which is what I am looking for as well.
