First, you need to make sure that evox has a static IP if you are choosing not to use use a router. It's been a while since I used evoX.

Anyways, go into the evox settings. Change the IP to static and edit the address to something like 192.168.0.157. Go to the end of the menu and choose "save and exit". Reboot the xbox for the settings to take affect.

You also need to give your PC a static IP. It would be fairly lengthy to explain this part, so I will not explain unless you post here that you need help with it. Make the PC something like 192.168.0.130.

Next, in command prompt on your PC (start->run->cmd) type "ping 192.168.0.157". Change the address to whatever you made the xbox. If you get a reply, then you can connect. If you don't, then you need to troubleshoot that. Post here if you have this problem.

Next, open your favorite ftp app (Filezilla for me) and create a connection. The username and password are both "xbox". Connect to the xbox address using those credentials, on port 21. You should connect.

Please post the part you are having trouble with. Also, make sure you really are using a cross cable. many times, people buy cat5e network cables thinking that they are all the same. Cross-cables are wired differently.

Thank you for your help, I will try that and let you know how I go asap. I think I have the idea now, however I am still unsure as to what I should see when connected. My son has a couple of mods that he wants to put in a game , he got them off the net and they are sitting on his PC, we tried to make a ISO of them but the Xbox light just flashes and it cant read the ISO, the PC sees the files as ISO but that's all. Will let you know soon and thanks for your time and help

I have worked out how to make the PC a static IP, I have done what you suggested with the XBox but now my problem seems to be finding the WINS and DNS Server numbers to pur in the second part of where I had to tell the XBox to use the new setting as you suggested 192.168.0.157. next it asks me to obtain DNS Server address and I imagine it will also want WINS Server address. Also I (I apologise for wasting your time) don't know what to do about changing the PC IP to 192.168.0.130. I got FileZilla and will use that when I get things runnning properly. Your help is most certainly appreciated. See, I live in Canberre Aust and people do not really like being overly helpful on most occasions (no, not everyone, there are some very helpful people. Any suggestions (apart from giving this up or stop annoying you?)

The DNS is not needed, it can stay automatic. However, I did forget to mention that you should set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 on both the PC and Xbox.

To change the PC address:
1. [Start]->[Control Panel]->[network connections]
2. Right click the LAN device you are using and choose "Properties"
3. In the "General" tab, there should a a scroll window with many check box's. Scroll to the one that says "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
4. Highlight the option mentioned in step 3 and click the "Properties" button.
5. In the "General" tab, click the "Use the Following IP address" radial button. Enter in the info and click OK on every window.
6. Go back to [Start]->[Control Panel]->[network connections]
7. Right click the LAN device and click "Disable". Then right click again and choose "Enable". Your PC should now have a static IP.


Your PC does not require a reboot after changing settings. The Xbox does.
