no need to do any of this by hand. check out this program:
http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html creates customized install cd's - you can remove unwanted apps (bye, MSN Messenger) and add hotfixes and other stuff

 Thanks a lot, sounds interesting, guess it can save a lot of time you'd need for digging into all that  But I'll read the rest of the text and then I'll use the app... so I a) learned something and b ) saved a few hours doing it by hand...
