I would say, he bought only the both expansions and he is thinking the mini image contains the full Sims2-Game so he can play the expansions.

Yes I too have this strange feeling that is what he is trying to do.  @smlutz You do realize you need the original Sims 2 game installed before you can install the University and Nightlife expansion packs?
