need help with over clocking

i have fx5500 256mb 3d card 3.0 ghz processor 256mb ram..................so i am having some problem with hitman blood money it runs kid of slow on my pc so should i overclock my 3d card is it safe to overclock my 3d card.............there are several options in the overclocking menu so to which option i should overclock like general(5),commander(6)

Who made the card? eVGA, Leadtek, etc.. Overclocking this card really depends on who made the card.

I'm guessing you have Stock 290/400 at 4X AGP.

A leadtek can handle a decent memory push ... around 500Mhz, but the GPU really can't be pushed past 300Mhz without artifacts or locking up on any FX5200. Bottom line here is you need a new card to handle the newest games.

Try lowering the texture quality and updating to latest drivers.

Ok, first of the most important thing. Be sure to read about overclocking before you do anything. It can easily damage your hardware if you are not aware of what you are doing.

Secondly, when overclocking something like a GFX here's a few guidelines:
Overclock 10MHz at a time. After overclocking those 10MHz you must spend time testing so it works. If it does, bump up 10MHz more in that case and start testing again.

Starting to get graphical errors? Well take the speed down 10MHz from that value and stay there. Do not press to the absolute max speed, keep it a few MHz under it.

The same applies for both RAM and GPU on the GFX.

but still i'm not clear kosmiq there three options in overclicking menu like 2d clock, 3d clock and memory clock so what should i increase

Lol....

2d clock, 3d clock and memory clock

2d Clock = the speed of the GPU in Windows
3d Clock = the speed of the GPU when playing games
memory clock = the speed of the memory on the card

That means that 2d clock can be left alone, don't care about it at all.
As for 3d clock and memory, bump each up 10MHz and see how things works.
Do extended game testing and make sure you get no graphical bugs and so on.

3d Clock/memory clock is the typical format when refering to overclocking your GPU.

My previous post recommends 300/(step toward 500), and as said no responsibility here if you fry something

so now i have come to a conclusion that i should not overclock my 3d card maybe if i am not that lucky........i would be left empty handed with a burned 3d card in my hands..........
