Well, if the publishers don't have to bother with coding their own software for this purpose, I'm sure they are happy to pay some of their income for Gamespy or other similar software and bundle that instead.

So the publishers pay for it whereas the enduser does not need to pay a single dollar...
That's... a good thing even tho I don't mess around with MP games

Well, they wouldn't sell the program 5$ less if they hadn't included Gamespy, would they ?
As if they were like, "Hey, we dont have Gamespy" "Hum, hard stuff, lets sell it for half the quid"... It's just a marketing thingie noone would pay extra for, it just makes the publisher known and respected better by users...
