BUMP:
I posted a reply to your topic and in reading further.. I see you only have FTP access to the server.. You are going to need Root access to the server in order to run these commands,, FTP is mainly for Running a web server (httpd) such as Apache. Ask your hosting provider about a dedicated solution or a virtual server with Virtuozo or something similar.. I recommend hostmysite.com.. they are not always cheapest but very good phone support.(I work in the Infrastructure Department..shameful plug, I know)
