The AMD, definitely. Until the new Conroe chips get out next year, the hard and fast rule is that AMD chips are faster than the equivalent Intel chip.

i personally got the AMD 4000 , i got it for around $700 about 1 1/2 years ago, which was a good price back then, i dont want to upgrade until something major hardcore comes out, like some kind of breakthrough.

Or use the celeron and sell the 2ghz AMD, they are very difficult to get a hold of now and can be sold for funny money.

Maximum Socket A speed is 3200+ Barton. So you won't be able to get any 3700+, sorry. Atleast not without changing motherboard and with that a lot of other stuff...

Yep,

If going higher I would suggest staying with AMD CPU if your gaming and get a 939pin Board and CPU. The 754 AMD ones are well not that amazing.

Ahhh, good, I see I won't have to fight with Intel fans! 7 out of the 8 CPU's I've had in my PC so far (since 1994) have been made by AMD. I wouldn't buy an Intel CPU even if it was cheaper or better than an AMD CPU. But I don't have to bother, because AMD currently is better and cheaper than Intel. The choice, therefore, is very obvious!

i was actually trying to built a very budget computer for my oldest bro . He had the Celeron 1.7 and got him for his birthday a ati 9600xt 128mb card, but it would still run slow and sometime alittle chopy. We were able to get a Asus A7N8X Socket A Motherboard , and my other brother had the AMD 2000 cpu , so i put it together for him, and i loved the results, plays very smooth on Low details lol , but he is happy, so i put it on medium details and put some settings on low , and it looked pretty good , for him. so i was happy for the results using the spare AMD cpu my other brother had.
For myself i would like to wait maybe a year after Vista comes out, so maybe they will have a cpu more compatible or something, and they will have a better video card by then.

AMD 4000 64-bit
ATI x800xt 256mb
SB X-fi Fatal1ty
2gb ram 3200
Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939
Viewsonic VG191b
Logitech Z5500 Speakers
Logitech Dual Optical Mouse
Regular $10 black keyboard - hey, cant i save some money some how ?

Intel Fan.. no fight yet.. but.. AMD is losing footing.. Intel is playing catch-up fairly well Can't wait for Kentsfield

Anyway, competition is good for the customers of all competitors as able competition makes everyone better struggle to become the winner...
