I'm not sure if it's a good idea to leave a switched off device still connected to the motherboard via the IDE cable... You'd rather want to disconnect the IDE cable. However, mounting a switch onto it is... khm... troublesome!

heh agreed. You won't believe the trouble a loose molex connector could bring when the drive is still connected (i know). And yes, a switch is rather dangerous if you don't already know exactly what your doing. I would just go ahead and unplug the IDE cable. If you damage the cable, owell buy another one, they're incredibly easy to replace.

Question

What's the best place to unplug the cable from?

Should I unplug the IDE cable from the back of the cd drive or from the mainboard ?
