Of course you can only start "University" after installing it on main SIMS 2 and also only start "Nightlife" when installed after SIMS 2 + "University", as the latest installed expanasion pack contains everything of the previous versions!
It is the same as with The Sims 1, the only difference is, that during the installation of the expansion packs different installation folders are used at SIMS 2! So everything works normal!  MontyBurns1985

Of course, it wasn't a problem, it was the correct way of starting the game with the shortcut of the last expansion. Sorry for being so stupid. And using the originals wasn't helping at all. I was mislead into this confusion by the cries of my kids for theirs old saved games, that were carefully erased in the upgrade process. I took few lives of sims, so what? Progress demands sacrifices. They didn'y buy it. I will.
