What happens is these companies buy X ammount of systems to play with. They fiddle around and get a mod working. Then they post that they have done it!. Microsoft over the past few years has gotten a bit smarter and change a few things around. So what works in one, doesn't necessarily work in another. The same thing happened with the PS2. They know now how to make one work, now they need to find the factor that changes from version to version so they can make a mod that works for all.
Relax, one will soon be on the market.

Ive heard MS have a bios that checks CRC's from various roms before booting up, thus placing a modchip on the board would stop it checking.
Which would mean a possible flash of the bios which will have to be reversed. Which in turn would give MS legal precedence to sue whoever sells the modchip. |

What do you mean by possible flash of bios that have to be reversed? You mean reverse engineered, right? Reverse engineering in the US is not a crime. You are allowed to do so to "learn" about the protection. However, distributing your own modified copies is prohibited. It has always been illegal to distribute hacked bios though. They will probably have the users flash them like they had on the xbox.

Yep, thats what I said.
You would have to give the modified bios to people so they can flash the BIOS to accept the modchip. Which would suit MS very well, as they have been looking for excuses to take the chip makers to court. |

But the current xbox is set up like that, and MS isn't doing anything about it.

Court Cases take time anyways, perhaps they are.
/me shrugs... They did say they will make the xbox 360 difficult to chip. I guess we will wait and see what happens. |
