That means the input jack has been damaged.. if you've ever dropped the player and caught it by the headphones you may have loosened a connection inside the player.. The little jack is soldered to the circuit board inside and one of them has come apart. If you wiggle the headphone jack at the base and get it to come back you've damaged the internals.. Not as common but still not rare.. In that case either you crack it open and resolder that connection or buy a new player
