No-CD vs image file

I did buy Civilization IV and enjoy playing it. I have not had any of the performance issues that some folks have.

My question was about the way to get Civ IV to work without the CDs. (Did anyone notice the Install disk and Play disk are mislabeled?) Anyway in the past to make games work without the CD I simply got a fixed .exe file from GameCopyWorld and replaced the old .exe. (like I did for Age of Empires III) But for Civ IV the only way to make this work seems to be rather complex with the image file and the cloaking software, at least it seems that way to me. I like to play games but am no programmer.

I own the game so if I can't get the no-cd to work it is no big deal but I was curious if Civ IV has some type of new uber-protection that prevents people from making a fixed .exe file? It seems every other game I have ever made work without a CD works with just the fixed .exe. But I guess Atari found a way to defeat that and none of the hackers can get around it? Go figure, all that cooperate money making it so I have to insert my CD when I play.

All protections are designed to make it harder for people to crack it.

This is a problem i have with certain Rar files too, I’ve not managed to fix it but I can work around it by

1 loading the rar in winrar
2 clicking the big ass "extract to" button
3 under miscellaneous options select "keep broken files"
4 press "ok" to extract file.

Every file "Winrar" has reported as broken has worked flawlessly so far.

Lightbulb Civilization 4 patch

Hi,

I've installed civ 4 but not the original one,I've bought a pirate one.

Is there anybody out there that have installed the pacth of civ 4 version 1.09on their pc without having problem?

I'm afraid to test it because the installation of civ 4 almost make me crazy.. so i'm afraid that the patch will make the civ 4 on my machine corrupted and make me reinstall the civ 4 back.

With 1.09 there are two options.
-real no-cd
-or mini-image (plus something to hide it)

You don't need an .exe...

Just mount the image, run VirtualCDhide, and play the game. Then when your done playing, exit VirtualCDHide. How easy can it get?
