The IDE controller is called "Intel(R) 82801DB Ultra ATA Controller" in my PC at my work place. Unlike in SamFisher's screenshot, I see the "Primary IDE Channel" and "Secondary IDE Channel" below it.

However, I can only disable the secondary channel (CD/DVD-ROM and hard disk rack) but not the primary channel (two built-in system disks). Perhaps, Windows - or the driver - doesn't allow disabling the channel(s) of the disk(s) of the system/swap partition(s)?

yes, when i uninstall nforce ATA controller i see these primary ide channel and sc. ide channel. i can disable ch2 but not ch1 (from device manager). its the same as you... BUT i've seen a screenshot of a guys pc at other forums, he has the same nforce controller as mine, but there is a DISABLE button.. He says that he disable it and all sf games work with no problems. Why i cant disable it?

Open side of case and get pair of plier and rip the EIDE controler off the MOBO , you can then keep this rig for playing starforce games, but will need usb rom drive to install future games
