About Ewould's Sims2 Tutorial

Original Poster: DVT
Post Date: 08-01-2005

I haven't followed ewould's tutorial but reading it, it is no different to the way I did mine and it is the same method as CDSTeam tutorial. The /s stands for single read. Only thing I can say is that I used the Money Crack here and the Disc had to be named Sims2. If the disc was named SIMS2 the game wouldn't run.

The /s method works for a couple of other games, I have done a similar thing with NFSU2 instead of remaking the compressed.zip I extracted it to the my DVD Root and adjusted the commonfilelist.txt as follows:

1,1,Cars\*.* /s
1,1,Credits\*.* /s
1,1,Frontend\*.* /s
1,1,Global\*.* /s
1,1,Languages\*.* /s
1,1,Memcard\*.* /s
1,1,Movies\*.* /s
1,1,NIS\*.* /s
1,1,Sound\*.* /s
1,1,Subtitles\*.* /s
1,1,Tracks\*.* /s
1,1,Support\*.* /s
1,1,eauninstall.exe
1,1,NFSU_icon.ico
1,1,SDATA\sdat.viv
1,1,speed2.exe
1,1,00000000.016
1,1,00000000.256
1,1,SafeMode.bat
1,1,Server.cfg
1,1,Server.dll

Not only does it seem to install faster but it fills the DVD up abit more!

This conversion wont Prompt for Disc 4!

Well, i think that i managed to perform a cd2dvd conversion of sims 2 that doesn't need to include an image of cd4 (in case you install an expansion).
When you are prompted to insert cd4 of sims 2, you just insert the dvd you just built and the instalation will complete fine.

Here is how i did it:

1. Follow the above Sims 2 CD2DVD instructions from 'Ewoud'
2. When you have the final files structure and you are ready to burn the dvd do the following:
a. Insert sims2_4 original sims 2 disc
b. Copy compressed.zip and RunGame.exe from cd4 to your dvd folder.
c. Modify file autorun.inf to look like this:

[autorun]
open=Setup.exe
Icon=Sims2.ico
Name=The Sims 2

[Special]
Disk=1,4

d. Burn the files structure on a dvd using label: Sims2_4

I was able to install without a problem the following expansions set:Christmas party pack and university.I hope it works with nightlife and any other
future expansions.

NOTE: BUT i mentioned that when i use the money's fixed exe it doesn't work like NO-DVD.It requires the dvd to be in the dvd-rom drive.

The game runs fine when i insert the dvd. For playing the expansions, without the original, use the images located on gamecopyworld.
