There's a thread called exactly "how to make a maxi image"; next time, use the SEARCH button.

Sorry, but that doesn't say much about the process that I would have to go through in order to make a maxi mini image... Saying that windows file compression will take care of it means nothing to me, and probably to many people on this board... I would however really appreciate it if you gave a little more detail, and please remember that some of us do use the search button, and I understand that this may be a little off-topic, and I apologize, but it's not fair of you to assume that I haven't already... so please, feel free to elaborate on the other thread as well, but this time with a little more detail...

I tried to create a maxi image:
  • Created a normal image from CD 1 => image is accepted by NFSMW/SD4.
  • Zeroed out the data part => "Insert correct CD"
  • Restored the image => image is accepted again (wasn't luck or random)
  • Zeroed out just the content of the big ZIP file "0_compressed.zip" => "Insert correct CD"
The error message appears quite quickly, so SafeDisc shouldn't have done a CRC check.

Does SafeDisc check the data with a kind of spot tests?

Whoops, sorry then, I guess that that thread needs a bit of update. See the "how to make your own mini image" thread then. To get a maxi image, just don't abort the image making process of Alcohol 120% (that would give you a mini image). Good luck!

@tomatomanz

It means your image is bad. MDS file didn't match with the MDF one.
Don't know why, maybe it's not the original cd you have..................

@XtremeX

Oups, yeah i forgot, it's cos my cd/dvd drives are almost always unpluged, so i don't need it.

@Kanalradde

New safedisc 4.60 check the size of the data on the disc, it's why we can't make mini image anymore.
But i never make a maxi one, prefer making a backup instead, i like to beat protection by myself.

I tried to create a *maxi* image, but the copy protection doesn't eat it.

Thanx for the info bro, but how do you make that into a mini image then? Do you compress it somehow, possibly using windows compression as you said in the other thread?

Anymore info would really help here

Maxi images can only be made on DVD's "for now". I am ****ing around with the bugger to make a maxi image from a CD, and I am having some success. Expiriment a bit with what can be 00'd out and what not, you will see what I mean.

That's a little cryptic, don't you think, rendari? I mean, if you would be so kind as to tell us what's needed to be 00'd out to make a maxi image, we'd all be a lot wiser, and bugging you a lot less, now wouldn't we?

I wish someone would just give us a straight, step by step, answer of how to make a working mini maxi image, and the tools required...

Do it my way.

Get a full image of a game that a maxi image is out for.

Compare the full image to the maxi image.

And congragulations, you can now make a maxi image with a DVD.

Its harder for a CD tho because the ****er checks for weak sectors implanted in the middle of the CD.
If you accidentally 00 out those weak sectors *bam* "Incorrect CD...".

So, pretty much, I am working on figuring what it checks for in the CD, and trying not to 00 that out.
