Try one of the 3 decoders at doom9 . DVDx is very slow on AMD but it should be better then nothing.

I would recommend using Gordian Knot as it really is well done and supported!
doom9.org has about everything on it. If you are too lazy to set up everything by yourself AutoGordianKnot is also very good.

If you are happy with the DivX format then try Magic DVD Ripper. It is fairly un-complicated to use and I have had great results the few times I have used it.
It is on version 3.5 at the moment so try and get the newest version of course.
