the reason why...
The real reason why i posted this question in this forum is...
I had a copy of "Trackmania Sunrise" from my local videostore. As the game was great fun for me i decided to buy a copy on ebay. Of course i have to wait several days for it to arrive. So i did the following trick. I started Trackmania Sunrise before i gave back the copy to the videostore. Then i shutted down the computer using the suspend to disk mode of windows whenever i had to leave for work etc. When i came back i just "woke up" my computer and the game was still running (and working .. without the cd). As i remembered there was a possibility on the Amiga to freeze the memory state and load that image to the ram everytime you wanted to. So i came up with the idea of doing the same on the pc. But as i thought there seems no possibility to do this as a computer running windows is far more complex than an old amiga  Nevertheless i thought it would be a good idea to ensure that this is right, so i came up with that question here. Sorry if that thread wasted your time ....and thanks in advance for your answers! btw. the game arrived me today ... so now im gone playing

I was having a SuspendMode in my old LapTop (Pentium 100MHz... very old).
The Suspend mode was activated by pressing the suspend-key on the LapTop. It was saving the complete ram + video ram to a "Suspend"-file on the harddisc. To use the Suspend mode there was a tool to create an empty "Suspend"-file. The LapTop was using Win95. Don't know if this would work with WinXP.

That would be hibernate now
 To echo what others have said, it's theoretically possible, but if one component was in a different state (Ie. the position of the HDD heads), then Windoze would throw an absolute fit, and probably blow summat as well, because it's just far too complicated these days  Cheers -Leezer-
