I have always chosen to update....
Normally it kept all my settings until I updated to 6.0.667. This update killed all my settings, even my preconfigured "secure zones" like my home lan. That really, really sucked !

Everything works now. I recommend to deinstall older Version of ZA manually. I had version 5.5 + 6.0 on my pc (Bad Installationprogramm of Zone Alarm 6.0), although I choose "New Installation" at the beginning, not "Update".
By the way, maybe THIS was my fault.

Zone Alarm 6 with new "Smart Defense" is bull****. I re-installed 5.5 again. I had lot probs with silly alerts during playing Battlefield 2 online and a worse ping.

well have just installed zone alarm 6 latest version and had no adverse effects at all with it on battlefield 2, turn off the smart alerts and voila!!!
