Mini Image
After reading through the previous thread about getting Winter Assault to work and having no success and then reading this post, I have done the following:
I have downloaded the mini image linked in the previous thread and mounted this with Daemon Tools v3.47. I have Daemon tools installed with a driver name that is different from the default (it asks for the driver names when you install it). I don't know if this makes a difference or not. I also have the Daemon Tools virtual drive set up so that it's the first CD/DVD drive on my system (I drive). My real DVD drive is set up as J drive. Once again I don't know if this makes a difference, but it helps ensure that the Daemon virtual drive is the first one that the game looks at when searching for the game CD/DVD. Lastly I have renamed the file Disk1Check.EXE found in the main game folder to Disk1Check.EXE.bak so that the game cannot run it. Upon running the Winter Assault exe file (W40kWA.exe) it sits there with a reading CD icon for about a minute and then finally loads. Note that on my machine the shortcut to Winter Assault that was placed on the desktop does NOT link directly to the exe. I had to create my own shortcut to do this. Your mileage may vary. This is basically what Maxtor102 just did, only I'm using the mini image, and not the full Alcohol image. Post Edit: As a final note I also have the v1.40 Dawn of War No-CD exe installed. I don't think this has any bearing on getting Winter Assault to run since it has it's own exe, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Last edited by Comothinon; 27-09-2005 at 01:51. Are you running W40kWA.exe from the game folder (or from a shortcut that you've created). Don't use the shortcut that the installer makes.

I'm not certain then...
I'm not sure what your problem is then. It works fine for me.
I did, however, install Anti-Blaxx (mentioned in this thread ) last night and messed around with that for a bit (using the hide option, not the delete option) before disabling it. It may have made some permanant change to my system that I'm not aware of that is allowing the game to run in coordination with the above steps, but I don't think that's the case. Post Edit: Btw, make sure you don't have the Winter Assault CD/DVD in your CD/DVD drive. =P Last edited by Comothinon; 27-09-2005 at 02:15. Reason: Ah yeah... |
