VirtualDub and Fraps

G'day all. Just signed up, mainly to aid the fight against starfarce, been through that damn thing like a fine tooth comb and I still don't understand a lick of it. But anyways, my question resides in the field of FRAPS. It recommends using virtualdub to convert these massive files into Divx codec'ed files, but I just cannot seem to get it to convert, I get various error messages seemingly with every compression method, does anyone have any tips? Thank you.

I used Nero Vision to convert the movies made with fraps to divx files.
I used divx6 for video and wma for audio and it worked pretty good but slow with a very small movie as a result
