Actually, yes they do...
Otherwise we'd have quite a hard time playing on ranked servers... I have a copy, and my mate has a copy, hence yes we both have a LEGAL copy of the game. We also have legal copies of many games that at the moment do not have working CD cracks. So say we want to play BF2 for a few rounds, we both have 2 CD/DVD drives each. We can therefore have 2 game CDs in our computers at each time. We play BF2, then SC3, not having to change CD's, one of us gets bored, wants to play Rome, we have to change CD's, that gets crap, so we go back to playing SC3 blah, blah bloody blah. All this CD changing is a bit of a pain in the arse after a while. Hence why I appreciate games such as UT2004 where they quite promptly patched the game and didn't ask for the CD. After all we did buy the game, we do have to enter a CD key, and shouldn’t that be enough? You then get pretty damn right over powered CD checks such as the one with SC3, it makes my beast of a PC hang whilst it checks the CD, this just isn't fair and basically pisses me off. I must admit a few years ago I used to just let mates use my copy of the game with a No CD crack, but CD keys got rid of that era (we couldn't be bothered to keep looking for cracked servers and it basically impeded game play), which is fair enough. We don't mind both buying the game, but I feel that once you have bought the game you shouldn't have to keep inserting a CD. It gets old after a while. So please before you start accusing me of having illegal copies, read my posts more thoroughly. Last edited by CrimsonCleaver; 29-07-2005 at 05:21. |

Why not just make multiple virtual drives in alcohol and mount the mini images for all the games you play in each drive? You have four games that you want to play, make four drives. I'll admit that I've never tried this, but I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work, if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.

That sounds like a good idea. It's just the only problem is that my friend's aren't very good with PC's, and it would boil down to them not knowing how to change the mini images when they want to play other games, and infact we do play more than 4 games, I just didn't want to list all of them.
Thanks for your reply though |

You may as well put your real cd in than use mini-images.
Its takes about the same amount of time, the only difference is that you lower the risk of the disc getting damaged. Crackers are just lazy (Not that their getting paid), its alot easier to create a mini-image than crack the exe/dlls files etc. (I would probably do the same if I was cracking games, etc) The reason I prefer no-cd's... 1. Just click on the icon and play the game 2. No spinning up/down of the cd-rom drive 3. No possible damage to the original discs 4. No Deamon tools/Clone CD in the task bar 5. No 4gb cd images sitting on my hard drive taking up needed space. BTW. If this site is just for people who have their original cd/keys etc then why does it provide people with private server cracks to remove the key check for clients connecting???? hmmm P.S. The reason why game manufacturers use cd checks is because they don't want any avarage joe being able to install the game on their pc from their mates copy and just play. Even though using a no-cd/mini image is easy for most computer literate people, most people aren't computer literate. That's my 2 cents plus a bit more :-) Last edited by russellrv; 30-07-2005 at 01:24. |

1. Not lazy, protections are tougher, dont just blurt out that their lazy until you understand what is involved. 2. Crackers dont make mini-images. |

G'day ppl
I'm using a mini-image which works fine online etc etc, but the stats doesn't get saved on BF2! That's the only downfall for me, so the original IS the way to go. Later..... Rusty. |

My discs are safe and away from others grubby fingers. Your more likely to trigger Punkbuster denial if you use a NO-CD if they check for altered files. |

It constantly amazes me that none of the people who complain about changing mini-images have heard of a little tool called DaemonScript- This allows you to create a customised shortcut (Little bit like a bat file), which will then automatically mount the mini image & launch the game, without any changing of images etc whatsoever.
