I think that is because some games just don't work with the chip so when they find that out they fix it.
I can remeber i think Spyro: A Hero's Tale, and Athens 2004 had trouble so they had bought out new firmware to fix that problem along with issues with other games. Thanks by the way snake2 for letting us know.
