The time to convert an avi to dvd compliant format is hardware dependant and it can take some amount of time (even a few hours!).
Generally speaking, the best way to make 2,3,4 or more cds to one DVD: Be aware of the codec, get a joiner for that, get a converter for that and then burn it to DVD. And, not all DVD players can play mpeg movies......
