Perhaps the game wont play mp3's over a certain bitrate?

@DabHand: Definitely not; My MP3s are encoded at the highest bitrate that LAMEMP3 does (Can't remember off the top of my head :P)

Another thought from me after looking at the various forums & threads on this- Try turning sound acceleration down to basic in DXDIAG- This seems to fix most GTA: SA sound probs.

What I mean is if the game only plays audio with a 128k bitrate, it wont do well with 192k bitrates if at all

Yeah, I know
My MP3s, all of which work perfectly with GTA: SA are all 320kpbs (Had to check that ), with the exeception of a smattering of 128kbps recorded off records.
