What have you done to it lately...Dropped...or just happened all of a sudden. :-)

Well......I have the Xenium Ice Solderless in a box just for this problem....I disconnect the cdrom and hook up the HD as a slave and boot up the chip....Then I format the bad drive with the new drive and then ftp everything to the old drive and voila....I have an exact copy of the drive and all is well....But I am not sure how it is done otherwise......Is the HD is toast then yes replacing it is the only suggestion I can think of, but unless you have some way of formatting the new drive to match the motherboard...I am at a loss.....HTH

I'd like to ask some questions;
-do you have a cathode light in your xbox?
-is your HDD locked?
-can you play games, with the chip on or with the chip off?

No you can't play any games at all.
No the hdd is not locked was told not to lock it.
Not to sure what a cathode light is. The only light is on the eject button and it is flashing red. Or is the cathode light on the modchip?

Well, a cathode light is used for backlighting, or hardware mods. If you ever see a glowing PC fan that is not made up of LED's, then the bulb that is used is more than likely a cathode light. They use some kind of gas to create the light, so they are popular because manufacturers can shape the bulb to designs and whatnot.

Anyways, if you HDD is not locked, then that could be a problem. I think one of the wires on your chip has either mis-aligned (if it is solderless.) or has broken off. Although, it has been a while since I worked with HDD's, so I don't remember if you get an error if you boot with the retail bios on an unlocked HDD or not.

I would make sure your chip is on correctly, then I would lock the HDD if that fixes the problem.

Try switching to the retail drive first though. If it works (and backups boot), then it was either a faulty connection or your upgrade has died
