i got the same problem

A bunch of my friends and I could not get the game to start. For some reason, reinstalling the game fixed it for all of us.

I have an audigy 2 value and the game runs ok

with my Audihy2 ZS everythink is working 100% fine..no Probs so far!

The Game doesn't start with Alcohol Virtual Devices. Turn them off. I use the official crack and got the german Retail version of gta (no download version) and it works fine with Leadtek 6800 GT AMD 3000+ 1024 MB Ram, Thrustmaster Joypad, onboard sound

I have Audigy 2 and I get lock ups all the time...

Thats not what he said,

I think he said he has cash left after buying the game which is 50, and he may have 55+ left so he may buy the audigy 2.

Personally I woulda got a SB Live 24bit for less.
