Got a working backup of GTR (Starforce 3)
Hi,
Just a quick thanks for the post on GCW fileforums on how to get a backup of GTR to run - I finally did it after applying the updates as suggested (Only trouble for me is- now Toca Race driver 2 plays decidedly horribly thanks to the unbelievably realistic physics / Handling of GTR). I hate having to wear out my original CD's , Here's how i made the backup- Step 1 - Made a working Mini-Image from CIrkutz MIR (Mini - Image Ripper) Using GTR disk one (although there's one to D/L on GCW). Step 2 - Applied the 149 MB update 1.2.0.0. (German) & 14.7mb Hotfix 1.2.3.0. Mounted my mini-image in Alcohol 120 ver 1.9.2. Used SF Nightmare ver112 to disable my IDE drives and secondary (Optical drive)IDE channel. Entered the serial (requested by game) and reebooted (twice) and then the game ran fine from the Virtual drive. Hope it work's for you too!!! Baron (UK)

You need to make the Mini image from the original!
I must point out that
a) you need to make the mini-image from the original (Or d/load the one on GCW). b) you will need the 1.2.3.0. hotfix file (14.2 mb) Search the net on Yahoo or Google 4 this! c) A very important requirement for the Starforce images to work is to startup Starforce Nightmare and select Disable secondary ide channel (second button), Disable CD (sometimes causes lockup & requires reeboot), Disable node, and for me (i have two optical drives) Disable secondary slave device. This program's window must remain open in order to "fool" starforce into thinking there are no active IDE devices (as yet - fingers crossed - it doesn't affect SCSI or virtual (SCSI) drives... Ok couple of suggestions to try!!!
Do you know for definate what channel(s) your optical drive(s) are on - when u run Starforce nightmare and disable the drive's , Check that there are no (Real) drive icons in My Computer.
Are u running Win XP??? See my attached diagram as to how to prevent some games from interrogating the fake (AH120 & Daemon) Virtual drives (Disabling read) - Before you do this - Be aware that editing your windows registery settings is not for beginners (I don't want you to ruin your window installation). OK here we go - Open you windows folder and scroll down to the Reg_Edit (light Blue) icon, Left click - Left click (expand) HKEY_Local_Machine folder - Then left click System - Right click on Mounted Devices folder and select permissions from the scroll bar text - Youll (hopefully) see a Security tab and in the box below a "Permissions For Administrators" box. Select the Deny Read tick box (Left click), and exit all windows. This will unblacklist the virtual drives (Works well with Securom7 new emulation too)... Hope this works Baron210 (UK) |
