hmmmm because no one else has mentioned my concept in the 2-3 years ive been reading about gamecube on 20 or so forums.
it only hit me the other day as i was playing mario about idea i had about the barcode on the disc and perhaps a lock in centre disc with burnt data that i decided to jump on your lovely forum and post. thought it cant do no harm. if someone wants to test it by all means go ahead. if it works. then hurray to the scene i suppose. their prayers have been answered. |

hey would you have laughed when the psx got released and people starting throwing ideas around about loading a spring in under the lid to trick the system into thinking the lid is still down??
as funny as that sounds "a spring used on a console. the weirdest of ideas are usually the ones people think of out of the blue. you can LMAO all ya want. ive seen this in so many forums. i.e symbian mobiles for example. someone pitched an idea about he'll program a snes emulator running on symbian phones and everyone called him a lying sack off sh!+ that a snes emu can never run on a phone. low and behold a few weeks later a SNES emulator was released and works on alot of Series60 and UI phones. slow, but works. so why would you laugh at something that might fill gap in the gc scene if this idea of mine has not been explored before. hmmmmmmm |

No thats actually ingenius. Reasons why aussiebloke's idea wont work: 1. To get the 2 discs to fit into each other would require quite a tight fit as stated by aussiebloke. This will result in disc warpage and possible damage to your laser. 2. Now anyone with any real common sense would say put interlocking teeth on the discs so they act as cogs. But this may result in damage to data on the burned disc. 3. Lastly, who the hell wants to damage an original disc just to get a backup to work? Tyler!

your either a yank or a stuborn canadian. your all the same.
instead of being easy going like us australians you should know that alot of old games are bloody cheap to buy. second hand, classifieds, etc or if you know what your talking about, you'd have remembered that the ps2 scene in the early stages told people to use demo discs from magazines which are FREE with ya magazine to use as cheap alternate boot disc. bloody president bush, he's the reason why your country thinks they are more superior to the rest of the world. lol. in response to your 3 staggered statement 1. To get the 2 discs to fit into each other would require quite a tight fit as stated by aussiebloke. This will result in disc warpage and possible damage to your laser. A. come off it. half the rental gamecube games i hire from blockbuster are warped from people having trouble taking the disc out from centre of dvd case. so warping is not an issue. discs are versitile for this reason. unless ya disc has been placed in sun and is greatly warped then what your saying would make sence. 2. Now anyone with any real common sense would say put interlocking teeth on the discs so they act as cogs. But this may result in damage to data on the burned disc. A. look at the barcode on an original. teeth are not required to make a cog effect locking system, as this would not only be stupid as teeth on cogs snap, and for the average home user, who wants to be cutting 2 x cog pattern when my simple idea of 2 rings is much more simpler. 3. Lastly, who the hell wants to damage an original disc just to get a backup to work? A. already answered up top. |

Bye bye for 2 weeks. Tyler!

i'm for the guy down under
tyler, i think your missing the point of aussie's question...would the dumb ol' gamecube be able to discern the difference of a alien barcode fitted into any old generic gamecube disc (whether it be original media or backup). It's obvious there are machinist tools out there, that once, when the barcode section of a disc is bored out (probably a game like luigi's mansion), you simply compensate for the 'bite' of the bit. When all is said and done, you have a snug fit, and then simply use a polyer cement of sorts. Of course this all means nothing if a barcode is married to its game.

Give it a shot then. Im not gonna ruin any games like that myself. His ban stays, though because of his insults.

Sorry but i'm with tyler....it's a stupid idea
The concept is nothing new, swap magic discs are simply ps2 demo discs which have been resurfaced with the swap magic code. Hence the ps2 thinks it's a original and boots. The whole process of doing that is highly expensive and needs a printing factory in order to do so. The compression rate on gamecube discs is so great that there simply isnt ANY margin for error.
