Well....I have done both and I still love the chips, but softmodding is very simple and I think SAFER than chipping, if you have no idea how to solder and what not. But like Seany and Qual said, you can screw it up and then YOU HAVE TO chip the box. You can softmod any box as long as you have the right installer, IE: LTools, UDE, etc...You need UDE2 if you are going to do a 1.6.

There are both sides to the arguement, as far as live goes....I use XBConnect and I do not have a live account anyways.....You can find a lot of info on softmodding at various sites, but do your research here and other places on installing the chips.....It is a learning experience!!!! haha....

Support the chips and uhhh...Rock the Vote.....or something like that

Dude...about 6 months ago I would have agreed with you......Let me rephrase......I have done over 30 now with the softmod and have never messed one up yet...Of course I use the UDE auto installer and my dog could do it....haha....I still do both. I can not think of one reason why the NORMAL user would want anything buy.....Except for the LIVE thing and I am not even sure about that, because of all the things that MS has to detect the chips, HD modifications, etc.....Again....I am just saying let the guy decide on his own. I was never good at the solder thing, but once I learned how to do it, then I was fine....I started installing a lot of the Xenium Solderles chips, because I love the OS it has on the chip. SOme people are just skeptical about opening up their box and voiding the warranty VISUALLY....Any modding, whether it is soft or not voids the warranty. I learned how softmod on my Xenium box, and I DID screw it up 5 or 6 times when I was trying to copy the hacked text files manually and rename everythng, it was a nightmare....But once I got the autoinstaller, I was golden.......I do just as many softmods as I do chips....I just leave it up to the owner....

Later all

You can, but you have to undo everything. I don't like softmods because they don't have as much control as Bios, setup wise.

Yeah....Like I said....I prefer chips on my boxes, but I do have two xboxes in my Truck with screens and I hooked them both up system link and my kids can play each other, those boxes have softmods, so I do not have to worry about bumping around or anything like that......My soldering was never that good :-)

And as far as Live goes.....Most of the people that have boxes around here do not even have dsl or cable......so it would not matter anyway.

What is the benefit of messing with the bios? What can you change and manipulate? I have always wanted to change the xbox logo and things like that, and I heard that you can with different bioses.....
