Barry what is your filesize of the uncracked painkiller.exe? and do you have BOOH installed?

Both the BOOH and v1.61 EXE are 1,474,560 bytes *BUT* they are not the same file contents! Your patch doesn't seem to work with either file?
Maybe it's because it's a DOS program and not a Win32 console app? The 1.61 patch updates both games to v1.61 so a new EXE is installed no matter if you have BOOH installed or not.

this one beats me. i now re-installed painkiller (without BOOH) 3 times to different directories/harddrives. then applied the 1.61 patch and used the patcher. guess what... it worked everytime.

Not working for me also. Here is something interesting though...
When I tried to delete the patch from the directory, it got the message that it could not be deleted because it was being used by another program. The only way I could get rid of it was to boot into safe mode with console and remove it via command line.

afterdeath: i had this once, too. but logging out and logging in again (no restart) resolved it for me.
http://igelei.gmxhome.de/pk161.zip this one is a patchfx patch. mayby you're lucky with that one.
