Is this true? I lose my warranty when I update the firmware? Even if it's the official one from the NEC page? Currently, I use the one you mentioned (with the rip-lock removed), but I can flash it again with the official one if necessary...they won't notice it, will they?
Btw: "it gives" ... ts ts

Even if you loose your warranty a new drive wont be that much anyways.

Hehe, sure...but I'd rather invest this money in a new PS2 game or something like that. Warranty -> kinda important

Well it is a risk. Im not sure if they can find out if you eventually reflash back to original firmware. In all honesty I dont think theyll look too deep into it if all appears ok to begin with. Theyll more than likely just get you a new drive.

I agree with TD. I seriously doubt they would look so far as to check the firmware. BTW are you guys sure it voids the warranty. This firmware update is offered by NEC so it isnt a 'illegal' hacked version.

In most cases any firmware updating isnt supported by the drive makers. Thats why some of them put disclaimers that say they cannot be held responsible for any bad flash.
