V4 making weird noises
I modded my V4 PS2 and everything works fine PSX, ps2 cd/dvd originals and backups and dvd movies. theres only one thing that's weird on it if you say opened the try put a new game in and hit reset instead of eject again and then reset I'll hear this grinding noise. I think it's the arm that brings the cd tray in and out any idea on what could cause this to screw up? as it was my first install I accidently did something to the cd case and pushed down or droped it from about an inch - inch and a half as well.
well if anyone has any thoughs on this please reply

You’re talking about the tray making noise? It’s a common Problem. Eject the tray and flick the power off. Find the steel rod on the bottom of the tray, put some oil on it.

not the tray specificly but the thing that makes the tray come out it looks like a long screw and it's inside the the cd-rom and to the right of the laser. and it doesn't make the grinding noise when the tray is coming in or out but when it's out and you hit reset the tray stays out and makes the noise.

That’s the worm gear that drives the laser from the center to outside edge of the CD/DVD while it reads. It does not move the tray. When you press eject it will drive the laser to the hub if it is any other place, then drop the laser assembly so the tray can eject. When the tray is reloaded the Laser assembly will rise back to the CD surface and attempt to read.
Perhaps your machine is not following that eject procedure for some reason. It works fine if you eject from standby mode? |

actually it ejects and goes back in fine if I use the eject button however if I use the reset button to put the tray back in it makes the weird grinding noise.

My V4 did it from new. I think it's just a trait of when you hit the RESET on one of these things with the tray out...
