O.k., thanks for your help. Thats what I was wondering about. I really didn't need Deamon-tools for anything else so I inturn don't want it showing. Some told me on another thread that the Sims NoCD fix #2 works 100% for the US version of the game, I might try that first and if it fails I'll keep the Deamon thing.

the way i have it set up, daemon does launch automatically at startup (which is default i think). i usually just have it set to 1 virtual drive, but sometimes use 2 or 3. the fact that these extra drives appear in my computer seems more convenient than problematic

you can easily change these settings to have daemon running only when you run it (ie NOT at startup) and you can disable all virtual drives while still having the program running to get rid of the disk icons in my computer

however there isnt a way to hide the icon in my computer while still using a mounted image as a CD if thats what you're asking (why would you want to do this anyway? if you want it to act as a CD drive, then an icon in my computer is part and parcel of that.)

TweakUi works great for hiding the drive.
Do you know if Daemon Tools uses any system resourses. I wish there was a way to permantly mount the mini-backup image so D-tools wouldn't have to be running in the background of WinXP. I hate having extra stuff running.

Does the image work with Alcohol? Alcohol loads as a driver without a system tray icon.

Hey whoeverxxx,

Why wouldn't Daemon Tools using some system resources? But, on the other hand, why wouldn't _any_ other software, that mounts a floppy/hard disk/CD/DVD image, use some system resources?

After all, when you access your hard disks, you access them via software, which is an integral part of the operating system. When you access the mounted CD/DVD's, you access them again via software, which is a third-party program but still bonded quite closely to the OS as it does low-level stuff.

But what's the difference between the two? It's that one is by M$ and the other is by someone else. And, I guess, you're better off with using third-party softwares than some M$ junk built into the OS!

Joe

some people think taskbar icons are an indication of running software..
as opposed to the process list in the task manager..
