MIR is a mini image ripper. but usually you can get mini images for every game at gamecopyworld. if you need MIR go to http://gf.wiretarget.com/safedisc.htm and d/l it there under safedisc tools

Starf**k seems to have totally messed up my system.
Not only did my virtual disc for Scrapland not work with StarF**k, but after giving up on not using the CD to play Scrapland, none of my other disc images work at all. NFSU2, Pirates!, FlatOut and others that I routinely run from my harddisk without using the CDRom now do not work with either Daemon Tools, or Alcohol where before running startf**k they worked perfectly. I really don't know what happened, all I know is that this has totally ruined my ability to use my software with emulated disc drives. Yes I uninstalled and reinstalled alcohol and daemon tools several times. I have even run the StarForce driver remover tool. This has not seemed to help. It must have been the Starf**k tool that caused this. Can anyone offer any assistance in this regard? Edited: Just to clarify, programs that attempt to use CDs off the virtual drives now crash with error messages. This was not happening before running StarF**K. Edited: I also tried doing a System Restore from one day ago, and that has also not solved the problem. Last edited by Meep; 13-12-2004 at 15:05. |

Maybe a stupid question, but, have u tried to unpatch drives and to remove Blist from the tool?. Until u run again star****er to unpatch drives u will not be able to use ur drives, or mounting any image in any mounting program.
This is the first "serious" problem we encountered with the tool. Everyone everywhere is enjoining Starforce. We should check some things yet. Nothing is perfect. One more thing. have u upgraded any Starforce game before using the tool?. It is known SF is very fast when finding workarounds for its protection bypass. morg

Just my luck that I am one with problem.
I can mount the CD-Rom images, and I can use my CD Rom drives. But when I try to run one of these programs that use the Virtual cd rom drives, they crash. I just tried running Scrapland to play, did not update any protections. I removed primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE CHannel and rebooted machine. I can run HL2 from DVD drive no problem, same with Sims 2, X2 The Threat,Office 2003 install,Rise of Nations, Spell force..I have a lot of purchase games with original CDs that work. The problem is once software like Need For Speed UNderground 2 tries to access the Virtual CD Rom, whether it is Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools, these programs crash, no error message from program itself, just an Exception Error from Windows. I can even read and install programs from the Mounted drives if I make CD Images, I just cannot then run the program from the hard disk, using the Mounted drive as a source for the CD-Rom. It seems that in trying to get around StarForce protection, have found a perfect way to block people from using popular CD Emulation programs to run protected software from the Hard Disk? What else could I try to fix this? |

read the regedit fix for the protection to skip/not see the emulations program.
BUT try to reinstall Alcohol 120% and deamon. HAve just those 2 installed other emulation get coughted! Then do the regedit fix, search in the forum to find instructions.. |

Are you referring to switching the Read permissions to Deny to prevent software from discovering the PnP Bios Extension entry in the device manager?
That currently isn't set, so that's not the issue. The problem is that the programs actually crash with an Exception error when I try to run them. I've never had to use, nor did I know about, any registry manipulations to get these titles to run, and they did before. |

Fixed it.
I reinstalled Direct X 9c and everything works fine. Now I'm not sure whether this was a problem with StarF**K at all, but I'm not going to mess around with it again to find out. Still a warning to those that might try the program, to be careful ![]() Thanks much to those that tried to help. Cheers. |

Ok, after backing up before installing SP2, I decided to test out starf**k and Scrapland just for the heck of it.
I don't know what happened the first time, but it works now. Download the mini image from GCW (or make one yourself from your CD), run starf**k. Select Patch blacklist, and disable CD Roms (Normal worked for me after entering my correct settings in Preferences). Then just run Scrapland. It should pick up the mini image from Daemon Tools and work just fine. Put the cd in a safe place afterward ![]() Hope this helps someone, and it certainly is a big pain getting games to run without the game CDs now. If there were CD Jukebox type drives out there where you could rotate CDs (6 disc cd changer for the PC? ) I might even invest in one. Too many games, too many game cds..too much switching in and out Although I do it with the Xbox, on the PC it just seems..different.Here's hoping more games get distributed via services like Steam. Cheers |

Doesn't work anyway
Wow, it doesn't work. I've tried everything - editing registry, disabling cd drives, clicking on everything in Star****, making that "special" link, played with settings in Daemon tools and Alcohol, starting with scrap.exe and other things.
And every time it says - Insert disc 1 in another drive. (I tried to mount the image to D: and F:, it doesnt matter) What else I can do? Where is the mistake? Please help me!!! I am totaly in **** I think. (I am from Czech Rep., so my english is not so good) |

after patching the game, mini image don't works
I downloaded d-day and installed it, after i mounted the mini image, and it works perfectly. It says the version of the game is v2.14. But, when i finished the 3. mission, the game crashes every time, on the same point. It must be a bug. I installed the patch v2.16, but since then, when starforce checks the same mini image, it waits 3 minutes, and after it says checking disk failed. I tried to reinstall windows, install the game, and before the first run install the patch, but the same happened. What's the problem? When i install a patch to a starforce protected game, have i get a new mini image? And then where can i find? 'cos everywhere, there's just there is the v1.0 version? (but it works with the v2.14 of the game)

Then the patch must recognise that you don't use the original cd, just a mini image. And the second strange thing is, that the mini image is for the v1.0, and it works with the v2.14 |
