Exchange your regular copy for the collectors edition which comes on DVD. Even if you redo the 5CDs to 1DVD you are still going to be fighting with the Securom protection, so save yourself the hassle, and exchanging it.

Im doing the DVD conversion now! Its got the msi file so its should be relatively easy! But at this stage you will still need CD1 in the drive to play so wether or not its worth doing! And yes luciel you need to log into steam every time you need to play! Well at least I do as mine hasnt technically been activated as it was all jammed up but still lets my play?
I posted what happened with my activation into BW's HL2 thread earlier but this is what it said:

"Your subscription to Half-Life 2 Retail Standard has not
been completed, because Steam is currently too busy to
process the transaction.
However, you can play Half-Life 2 Retail Standard in the
meantime, and we will get back to you with the results of
your transaction as soon as we are able to process it."


P.S: Forgot to mention it took nearly and hour to get to that message!

how would you exchange the 5 for the DVD version ? I bought mines from the store, would they let me exchange for the DVD one ?

Now that I've been able to activate it properly, no I dont have to be online all the time to play!
