I used Alcohol 120 without a problem..
I used it both to make the image and burn it. Worked fine with the Matrix Infinity. I haven't flashed the chip with any newer bios either. I know a lot of other people have backed it up just fine so I think the problem may be on your end. I'd say try and find another Messiah 2 owner and see if they have had any troubles with it.
