I think the game has just a API GetDriveType procedure. I worked with some tuts. It were my first try, but don't work like i hope ...
In the german RA Forum some people say that this is a simple protection.

edit: i wanna use alcohol, but the DVD is over 6 GB and on it are many many many bad sectors (i read elsewhere, over 7000), i stopped the Backup after four hours rofl.
