If you have access to an orbital car buffer, that works perfectly using car wax. I have resurfaced more than a dozen games using this method and not one problem since I discovered this little trick. I have even removed some of the deeper scratches.

Have to buy a car wax and try it on one of our games..(tried to backup The Simpsons, getting errors...
