I agree, you don't need a chip to play original games on the HDD.

you can get the NTSC version of HD Loader and play it you PAL PS2 (or vice versa) provided that you have a modchip installed..

one small tip

make sure your hdd is clean..if you're taking an old hard drive from a computer (like I did) give it an fdisk and wipe the partitions of it so it's like new...HDLoader will format the drive faster if the HDD is clean (raw) than if it's got data on it
