Probably the continuous drain of our almighty economy!

I still dont think it has fully recovered like we are meant to believe, cause if it did, gas prices would drop. Its draining alot of the less dominate business' and you are right Sped, this will open more revenues for the stronger business' like Sony and EA! It seems the bigger companies are getting power hungry too!

Although this does relate to PS2 games/development, this is a bit off topic and should probably be moved to Off Topic "General gaming". <---edit, nm.

Hehe, eh? You think Acclaim could actually compete with the likes of SONY and EA? Ever since the PlayStation came about, Acclaim have released 1 huge flop after another. The only thing that kept them going during their Golden Era, the 16bit Wars, was the fact that they published such games as Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam and the WWF Games. All big sellers. Its not the US Economy that killed Acclaim, its their crap games.

Well it's reported that they have debts over $100 million US. it's a shame they have gone...i'd say they died due to crappy games such as the Turok series, BMX XXX...their best games such as NFL Quaterback Club Series, All Star Baseball Series died due them not paying the licencing fees.

does this mean that Acclaim is gone worldwide? (there's an Acclaim games house in Melbourne, Australia)

Luciel - I agree with you 100%

Well...I know that Juice Games (makers of Juiced) were formed from ex-employees of Rage Software (of GTC Africa fame) and Digital Image Design aka DID (of EF2000 and Total Air War fame), i think if they don't get a publisher to get the game out (for sure they won't go to EA - the game is a direct competitor of NFS Underground) they more than likely publish it themselves (i just want the game to come out that's all!)

Like i said...i think that games that acclaim have/had in the pipeline (The Red Star, 100 Bullets, Interview With A Made Man etc.) will be picked up by a publisher (like Atari, Namco or something like that)...alot of potential with these games...too good to go to waste!

Yeah, unless the Acclaim Studios in Europe and Austrailia, were basically 'franchises' (selling off the name, so to speak), then this is a worldwide thing. To think they used to be a huge force in the 16bit era. All because of Mortal Kombat really.

This stuff about Acclaim being almost broke has gone around for a good few years now. (Just check the Archive section for popular game sites). If Acclaim actually had any Franchise titles left, then I'm sure another Publisher would have bought them out long ago, which kinda shows you what they now mean to Gaming World. Maybe, some other upstart will buy out the company, just for the name. (Which means jack in this day and age)

Turok 1 and 2 were one of their top sellers, Turok games after bombed though. T1 is one of my favorite "old" fps's. When the new systems came out, I knew acclaim was going to die. Like said above, one crap game after another. They pooped on every series that kept them alive.
