Additional info

Just like this thread: http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=63987 I get the same error, cyclic redundancy error. I think a new encryption method may be in use, it is quite possible that new copy protection techniques are being utilized. As with his problem, mine always freezes in the same place too, no matter what app I am using. And also this is with a brand new disc. There are no defects to the dic's surface at all, and others that I have talked to in Asia are saying they get the same results when trying to back up any Avex Trax discs (the recording company for Ayumi Hamasaki). Maybe it should be looked into?....

And still some more info

I am really doing some homework tonight. Lolz. Here's another site on my research. Apparently, Blindwrite 5 can do the rip.
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=220732
I am ripping the dvd right now as I type, but one thing to note, I think the disc has bad sectors just before the end of the first 01_1.vob file and continues through the rest of the disc, as ripping it has so far been a VERY slow process, about 2-6k a second, but it seems to be able to bypass the bad sectors and keep going. The software has reported no read errors. I'll post the results of this experiment when it finishes.

Awww man I really dont wanna have to buy Passion OTC just to test this out myself but it seems that maybe that particular movie may have this new protection.

Keep us informed, generalplot.

Update to experiment

Well, 10 hours after I started ripping, and it has just cleared the 1 gig mark, and still dragging. I'm not sure if Blindwrite can rip this disc or not, but I don't find it feasable to let it spend a week ripping, just to possibly wind up with a bad ISO image if the rip doesn't go right. One thing that I found out while searching, is that someone noted that the Ring Protection system can not be used in a daul layer commercial disc, and that would make sense. I was wondering why my Ayumi Hamasaki DVD was only 4.18 GB, yet the entire video is over 2 hours long. For those that want to know, the disc is Ayumi Hamasaki: Museum-30th single collection live. A little strange I think, as this disc was rated as one of her best. Perhaps the reason nobody has it on the P2P is that nobody else can seem to rip it either. With any luck, I hope to be the first.
