The old 6 wire Neo chips are known for causing laser damage. I agree with CGL, sell it and get a newer console.

Exactly! This is what I meant by the can of worms about to be openned. Lets say the last attempt was just a minor error in soldering and one of the wires just didnt take for whatever reason. On a second attempt, you may get past this problem only to find out shortly after that the laser will have difficulty in reading backup media. Shortly after that the laser dies completely and , we are back to here trying to figure out what to do next. This is where I said "sell and cut back on headaches, and wasted time". Unforeseen damage. Thats the only reason I say sell cause you will most likely befall this chain of events exactly. The best time to stop a headache is "Just" before you get it.
