Shenmue to non-selfboot

My CD Burner does not support disc-at-once, therefore I have to make all my games non-selfboot for them to work. Using the guide at xeal I have been able to burn about 13 successful games. Howeber With Shenmue (passport and disc1-3) the boot disk displays the cover art of the CD, and the red load indicator at the bottom left of the screen goes up to 96% and then the screen goes black. Any suggestions?
