Have you checked the actual specs of the HDLoader.. Like format time. PS2 is no PC.. It might've actually taken longer than 50 minutes or it may have been a legit error. Either way if you interrupted the format with a hard power off it could mess with things like boot records and other junk I would think.. The PC format sounds like a good idea. You might need some kind of utility to resurrect that drive.. But the PS2 definately isn't equipped with the tools to do the job.. Tyler's suggestion is the only way to go.. and before you pop that thing back in (assuming you get it going) do some homework and check for worst case scenarios.. loading times.. format times.. etc.

Actually I wouldnt.
I think you can use some DMS3 tool to format your hdd as well. Look into that, because this seems to be the last resort. Tyler!

Alright in one thread off another forum a reviewer/user of a HDLoader says it only took him 3 minutes to format a 160gig drive.. Another user in another forum describes the same problem you're having with the hangups and never ending format. Maybe you just got a bad product.. only way you could find out for sure is get ahold of another copy from another source and give that a try.. Other than that dunno..

alright alright.. I found this in the same forum. Sorry for posting in triplicate.
"First of all: DO NOT USE HD loader to format this disc. It will just hang. Anyway: I used DMS HDD tool to format, and it did the job (took 20 seconds or so) - Thanks to Khafan Then, put in HD loader. At the loading screen where it says "HD loader", it hangs (bug 1). BUT, there is a trick: First, you hear the HDD spin up and then after 4 seconds or so, spin down. When it's down, press eject button. The loader will go to the menu!! (bug2 : *** unbelievable!!!!!) You can get your HDD loader disc out if you want. Now, you are in the menu. First i installed 'auto modellisa (dvd rip)' and it installed without any errors. Then i wanted to get to my second game, so i click install. Then it says 'not enough HDD space', so i click install again. it works! I got this a couple of times in the beginning when installing games, just click 'install' again, and it works! (bug 3) " No Idea if that'll help period.. But eh I think I've stretched this out long enough. Last edited by Neipas02; 28-07-2004 at 11:49. |
